The group of five numbers 1,1,2,2,3 form a repeating unit. The sum of these five numbers is 9. Since there are eight such repeating units in the first 40 numbers, the sum of the first 40 numbers is 8×9 = 72

I think the group should be 1 1 2 2 3 1 thus 6 numbers in the grouo.

I think 1) sequence is 1,1,2,2,3,1 , six number with total 10 2) For 40 number this sequence will repeat 6 times + 1,1,2,2 so total will be 66

6 Numbers in a grouo. Thus 6 grouos plus first 4 numbers. 6X 10 olus 1_+1+2+2 = 64

I stand corrected. It is a group of six numbers that form the repeating group, which sum is 10. There being six such groups plus the first four numbers in the repeating unit making a total of 40 numbers. My careless mistake, my apologies. The answer is indeed 6 × 10 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 66
