Ratio of price of TV to price of DVD player
= 5 : 4 (125% : 100%)
The discount for the TV
= 5/9 × $360
= $200 (20% of the original price)
Original price of TV was $200 × 5 = $1000

For students who need a visual model...
We may also work out the 20% as 20% of 225 units = 45 units which equals 360.

I attempted to find 80% of 225.the selling price after discount. From your guidance, realise there is no need to. Thanks for helping. .

The ratio of the first cut
= 2 : 3
= 8 : 12
The longer cut is cut into two parts in the ratio of
1 : 3 = 3 : 9
The required ratio is thus
3 : 8 : 9

Let us assign 50 units to represent Natalie's savings.
Melissa had 20% more than Natalie, hence Melissa had 120% of 50 units = 60 units
Olivia had 70% of Melissa's savings, hence
Olivia had 70% of 60 units = 42 units
In summary,
Melissa 60 units
Natalie 50 units
Olivia 42 units
Olivia received 21 units (50% of her original savings), of which Melissa accounted for 6 units and Natalie 15 units based on the ratio of 2:5.
In summary, the final
Melissa -> 60 - 6= 54 units
Natalie -> 50 - 15 = 35 units
Olivia -> 42 + 21 = 63 units
54 - 35 = 19 units -> $167.20
1 unit = $8.80
63 units = $554.40
