Please help - P5 Question: Peter is selling pencils. He sold 3/5 of them in the morning and 1/4 of the remainder in the afternoon. If Peter sold 200 more pencils in the morning than in the afternoon, how many pencils did Peter have in the beginning?

Hi, Bee Yen. View the steps below to calculate the total number of pencils in the beginning. Step 1: 1/4 x 2/5 (remainder) = 2/20 = 1/10 of total pencils sold Step 2: (3/5 - 1/10) of total pencils sold = 200 pencils (6/10 - 1/10 = 5/10 = 1/2) of total pencils sold = 200 pencils Total pencils = 200 x 2 = 400 :)

Using a numerical example on line 3, if there is 1 cookie each of the 9 jars, there will be 3 cookies in each jar at first. Hence, 1/3 of cookies in each jar is left in this problem sum. 2/3 of cookies in each jar is 20. There are 30 cookies in each jar at first. There are 36 cookies in each packet.
