Are there any errors in the question?
Logically speaking, Total for Tom remains unchanged. Just look at 1/5 as a fraction and make Tom in both ratios to be the same number (finding common factors)
However, the maths don't add up. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Or something like that

😅 it would be hard to get the answer if that's the case!
Anyway, for this type of ratio question, it is classified under 'One part remain unchanged'. Hence, to solve this question, just need to make the one part into the same number. The rest would just be doing the maths :) hope that helps!

Of course, if you are looking for the solution, (assuming 2:25 is accurate) read on below.
He:Tom
1:5 = 5:25 (since Tom's total remains unchanged)
5u - 2u = 3u
3u -> 3
1u -> 1
Since he will have 2u 'if he loses one marble', he will have 3u which means he have 3 marbles.

$2000 divide by 4=$500 (instead of divide by 5)
Then 3 units = 3 x $500 = $1500

Why 2000/5? It should be 2000/4 as total there are 4units (Alina + Brenda).
