How to solve?

Since 28/16 = 7/4, we know that the factor is 7/4. 70 divided by 7/4 = 40. Therefore the missing number is 40.

28 + 14 = 42 + 28 = 70 So the clue is the difference x2 16 + 8 = 24 + 16 = 40

The ratio for the second set of numbers is 4 : 6 : 10. If you apply this ratio to the first set of numbers, the third number should be 40.

Step 1: Reduce 16:24 to 2:3. Step 2: Multiply 2:3 by 14 2:3 ---> 28: 42 Step 3: 28:42:70 are multiples of 14 so, 2:3:5 is the reduced ratio of 28:42:70 Step 4: multiply 2:3:5 by 8 again. 2:3:5 ---> 16:24:40 So, missing number is 40. :)

This question is poorly set. I wouldn't worry about not being able to solve it. However, if you wish to find the solution, scroll through the photos posted in this FB and you should be able to find two previous occasions when other members tried to solve it.

This was a primary 3 test paper question... I agreed is poorly set without any explanation.... Some mention answer is 30 and 33.... just add up the sum in each circle.... not sure if correct

6 years ago
Huixian Lu

Can't be 30/33 coz it asks what is the missing number, not numbers. In the previous 2 posts, I don't think the original posters ever came back with the answer from the source.

Some say is pri2 question. Agreed with above opinion. Don't worry about this question. It's a bad apple.

This is the 3rd time this is posted here. First post mentioned that it's a P1 question from Qifa pri school. No conclusive answers. FYI.
