This question is not for primary school students. Bryan, you might want to find a forum for secondary school mathematics.
Thanks, but actually it is a competition question
You are most welcome. I see, Bryan. Would you like to share with us what competition did you participate in?
I think there's no need , right?
Haha right hand top corner says 6th Malaysian math olympiad
You are very sharp. It completely escaped my attention!
It is your choice. Share if you want, but you are not obliged.
Btw thanks bcs. in all of the questions in that paper this problem makes me dizzy...
:) I see. Nice, all the best to you, Bryan.

P5 math question, appreciate some help. TIA
How u derived 5/9
Using model method
We have x=org. amount of money, so (x-2/7x-$105)(1-4/9)=1/3x.
Working backwards, we get (1/3x)(9/5)=3/5x. 3/5x+2/7x=31/35x, so $105=4/35x.
x=($105)(35/4)=$918.75
Hariani Salleh.. Nice working backwards.. I start from 4/9 of the remaining
Thank you. I used model drawing.
Thanks 😀
