Hi, Lee WenDy Loy. Based on your drawings and the calculations of the respective lengths, you are left with finding the width of Room B. To find the width of Room B, you need to do one thing: Subtract 8m from 22m so that you can find the length of Room A just before the highlighted pink area. Then, subtract all the sides, including the 8m from 14m, from the total of 88cm. You will realise that you are left with two unknown but equal lengths. Divide that answer by 2. Then, subtract this answer from 8m. You will get the width of Room B. The width is between 1m to 5m. :)

Yes, the answer is 16cm! But why?

(b) is 40 cm. Why is it not so given that it is a square figure of length 10 cm?

Jason Oon

Answer should be 40cm.

U made a careless mistake Jason Oon n Carol Sia I think. U know that 1 side of the rectangle is 6 n the other is 18. The length of 1 side of the shaded square is 18-14 which is 4.

I dun get it. Why 18-14?

Which part u don't get? 18 or 14?

Why 18-14 and not 18-8?

Why must take 18 - 14?

I am just guessing why 18-14:-

Shaoyang Brandon

There is an error in the drawing. The 18 cm is only for the rectangle and not the rectangle and the square. :) Hence, the length of the shaded square is (18 + 6 - 14) cm. :)

Side of the square should be 18 + 6 - 14 = 10. If it's an answer key that's not from the school itself, it is possible that the person made a mistake himself.

Hi, Carol Sia. Here is a hint. John + David = 150.4 John + David + Roy = 216.4 What will you do from those two equations to find the mass of Roy? :) :) Once you know Roy's mass, you can solve for (a) and (b). :) :)

No problem. :) I also thought the same way too. Then, I realised the question was a giveaway when I saw the sentence on the total mass. :P
