Since it's equal number of birds and cats, each set will have 6 legs. 36 รท 6 =6 There are 6 birds and 6 cats.

He can use guess and check if that is the method that the teacher is expecting to apply

So the answer is 6.. This method learnt from vera Koh..

Cat and bird has 6 legs together. So 36/6=6 sets of animals. So cats=6 birds=6 so 12 animals

Guess n check method. This mtd is to be used for p2 to p4 levels. Ie. 6 birds= 6 x 2=12 legs 6 cats= 6 x 4=24 legs Thus there are 6 birds n 6 cats with the total of 36 legs.

Guess and check Cats. Birds. TotalLegs 12. 0. 48 10. 2. 42 8. 4. 36 6. 6. 36 5. 7. 34. (Ans) 5 cats+7 birds

There are a total of 12 animals.. You may start to guess let's say with 10 cats and 2 birds. Calculate 10 cats->40 legs 2 birds-> 4 legs Then u bring up the no of birds from 2 .(reason is 44 legs is more than 34...therefore they are more than 2 birds).. You can try 5 birds and 7 cats and find the total legs.. If the total legs is still more than 34 u increase your guess to 6 birds+6cards.. Hope ur kid understand...

Assumption method.. Diff between cat and bird legs-> 4-2-> 2 legs Assume all are Cats 12x4= 48 48-34= 14 14รท2= 7 birds Cats-> 12-7= 5cats(ans)

Assumption method 1. Assume all are cats 12x4 =48 legs 2. Difference 48-34=14 3.Divide by the difference in legs 14/2=7 birds 4. So 5 cats n 7 birds 5. Check back: 20 +14=34legs

Supposition Method Cats. Birds. TotalLegs 12. 0. 48 11. 1. 46 Increased in 1 bird...decrease in 48-46= 2 for the total legs. From 46-34= total 12 legs decreased So from 46-34-> 12รท2..= 6 birds increases Total 46legs-> 1 bird 34 legs-> 6 birds There are 6+1= 7 birds

5 cats. Solve equation c+b=12, 4c+2b=34. (C-cat, b-bird)

340 were released into Pond X. But why need to add to Pond Y?

6 years ago
Vanessa Wong

It is more like to show the difference between x and y. Only 520 were added to y but since 340 were removed from x only. The difference between x and y is 340 + 520 = 860 at first.

BA Poh Ann

Parallel drawing. When the value of the highlighted (fish added into X) is 340, below that part has the same value of 340 too. Means Y's unit is inclusive of 340.

Ivy Ng

Is the model answer wrong?

6 years ago
Vanessa Wong

Answer sheet is wrong. You can check by using the answers and see if you can come to the same conclusion that both were equal in the end. If y is 1170, x is 650 at first. 1170-520=650 (y) 650+340=990 (x) Which does not telly

6 years ago
Voon Jasmine

Because both have SAME number of fish after pond X add in 340. That's y Y you hv to add in 340 as shown in the model. They r equal part.

Is this working acceptable?
