Think of it this way: To loan 1 more book (from 5 to 6) to each person, you need 12 more books (excess of 5 to short of 7). Hence, there must be 12 persons. No. of books = 12 × 5 + 5 = 65 Or No. of books = 12 x 6 - 7 = 65

What Vera mentioned above is to figure out and write down the pattern. As such, number of lines is the multiples of 2 and number of circles is number of lines + 1
