4x + ×/4 = 42.50 X=$10 10 × 3 = $30 Kieran has $30 10 ÷4 = 2.50 10 + 2.50= 12.50 They spend $12.50 altogether

For QN 3 minimum of two $1 notes were used... For the other 11 notes--use assumption method or guess/check

11 notes=$70 All $10=$110 $110-$70=$40 $40/$5= 8 $5notes $30= 3 $10 notes

Answer 3 x $10=-> $30 8 x $5=-->> $40 2 x $1=-->> $2 ------------------------------- Total----->>> $72/- --------------------------------

Total 13 notes . 13 notes minus 2 one dollar notes = 11 notes. Used 11 notes and worked from there. Guess and check method.

For guess and check pls note that the no of $5 notes will be an even no...bcoz of the total sum of $70... Like how Zhong Shu Hao has drawn, most of the parallel lines come from the "plus" shaped figure.

There are 13 pairs of horizontal parallel lines in the "plus" shaped figure. Hence, there will also be 13 pairs of vertical parallel lines. Then, add 1 as there is still the following pair of parallel line.
