Average daily expenditure
= 24 + (0.56 × 3) / 4
= $ 24.42
Average cost of meal over the whole trip
= 24.42 ÷ 3
= $ 8.14

Refer to the question:
Total cost of 3 days = 24.56×3= 73.68
Add e cost for 4th day to get total cost of 4 days = 24 + 73.68= 97.68
1 day = 3 meals
4 days = 12 meals
Cost per meal = 97.68 ÷ 12 = $8.14.
It is a part whole concept followed by division. See average as multiples with the no. of days. Easier for the child.
Draw models if necessary.

You are most welcome Irene. The method I showed is taking advantage of the fact that the money spent was $24 and some for the first three days and $24 exactly on the fourth. By taking the extra bit more than $24 in the first three days and share that over the four days, it takes away the necessity in dealing with bigger numbers. It is so simple that a child need not even use a calculator. Regards

Interesting thing to note is that Liming with $180 was already initially having twice the amount that Gopal had ($90). Since Liming spent twice as much as Gopal ($20 to $10), the remainder of Liming's money must still be twice of what Gopal had left with.

4 times the next higher number, which is 5. So 4 x 5 = 20

Starting from the top most sector and going clockwise : 3 times 4 (1 more than 3) to give 12, 7 times 8 (1 more than 7) to give 56, 2 times 3 (1 more than 2) to give 6, 5 times 6 (1 more than 5) to give 30, 4 times 5 (1 more than 4) to give 20 and finally, 9 times 10 (1 more than 9) to give 90.

I think it's 4 square plus 4. The pattern seems to be squaring what's inside the then add the number itself. Example 9 squared plus 9 = 90, 3 square plus 3 = 12
