8/9 of the remainder = 4/7 of the original total = 8/14 of the original total This means that : The remainder = 9 units The original total = 14 units Hence 5 units = 175 1 unit = 35 (a) 5/14 (b) 35 × 14 = 70 × 7 = 490 t-shirts at first.

(b) The number of blue buttons did not change. 2/5 of the new total is 72 blue buttons, which means that there were 72 ÷ 2 × 3 = 108 Red buttons in the end.
