(2). Looking at the denominators, only option 2 has a numerator that is less than half its denominator.

Follow... usually i get my girl to compare 1by 1(by making denominator same to compare) ... interested to know is there a shorter method.

Here is a hint: Make the numerator of 1/2 to be the same for each of the options. For example,
(1) 2/3 vs 2/4
(2) 3/7 vs 3/6
(3) 3/5 vs 3/6
(4) 5/9 vs 5/10
Now, compare the denominators.
(1) 3 vs 4
(2) 7 vs 6
(3) 5 vs 6
(4) 9 vs 10
The one with the larger denominator wins. In this case, it is (2).

For P3, they should be taught to use half as a benchmark.

If you did what half is the denominator is and compare that to the numerator, it's pretty quick.
1) 2/3- half of 3 is 1.5 and 2 is more than that. So 2/3 is more than 1/2.
2) 3/7- half of 7 is 3.5 and 3 is less than that, so 3/7 is less than 1/2...
