What you have drawn is correct. After shifting the bottom triangle on top of the upper triangle, you just need to solve for the area of the "lip"

What is the answer?

We recognise that the total shaded area is a familiar one and can be worked out as 2*(area of quarter of circle - area of triangle). The circle would have a radius which is half of PR, which is also the height and base of the triangle. Your working for area of quarter circle and triangle is correct. Perhaps drawing the shape of the quarter circle with the triangle will help your child visualise better.

The ratio you showed is correct. If we used ratio concept to solve it, first, identify what remains the same. In this case, the total remains the same because Betty received from Tina. Before 5:7. Total = 12 units After 3:1. Total = 4 units. ==> Make this into 12 units by multiplying by 3. So it becomes 9:3 with a total of 12 units. Comparing 9 units and 5 units, we know that 4 units = 60. 1 unit = 60รท4 = 15 9 units = 15 x 9 = 135. Betty had 135 stickers in the end.

Since the total number of stickers remained the same, we can make the total units in the 'before' and 'after' the same. Before: total units = 12. After: total units = 4 which can be multiplied by 3 to 9 : 3. Now, comparing Betty's units (can also compare Tina's units), how many units has she added which is equivalent to the 60 stickers she received? Try to work on from here.

How u get the answer?

The number is an even number, so the digit in the ones place can only be 0,2,4,6 or 8. Since the digit in the tens place is 4 times of the digit in the ones place, the digit in the ones place can only be 0 or 2, as 4,6 and 8 will give a 2-digit product. Question also states that the digit in the ones place is not 0, so it can only be 2. Digit in the tens place is 4 times of the digit in the ones place, so is 8. Digit in the hundreds place is 5 more than the digit in the ones place, so is 7.

Aloysius Goo it says even number..so cannot be 541 ..if its 542 ..the tens place is 4 x of ones place . .again cannot be 4. .cos 4 is twice of 2 . . Also hundreds place is 5 more than the ones place. .so 782 is the answer . . ๐Ÿ˜Š.

The question is more about getting students to think about number concepts such as what a digit is, what even numbers are, which even number less than 10 when multiplied by 2 will also be less then 10. Some students at P2 might think that a digit means a number so they may not understand this question to begin with.

The first sentence 3 digit even number - how does it apply when the 1st digit is 7?

Zhong Shu Hao

A number is even as long as its LAST digit is even. All other numbers does not matter (provided the number is a whole number/ is an integer)
