Using guess and check method or Assume method.

In this case, it may not be straightforward to do supposition since we're not given the total number of fruits. Guess and check may better. Guess and check: There's at least 1 apple (since total has 5 cents), so taking away 0.55 we're left with 4.90. Then we also know that 2 apples cost 1.10, so keep subtracting 1.10 from 4.90 until we get multiples of $0.80. Or we can keep subtracting 0.80 from 4.90 until we get multiples of 1.10.

Esther Cha, I told my son to look at the total amount first ! In this case, it end with a 5cents. So apples must be in odd number. So start from 1,3,5,7 apples, then substrate from total sum. See the remaining can fit in the amount for pear.

5.45/0.55=9.9 so max is 9 balance will decide the no of pears.. 9x0.55=4.95.. 5.45-4.95=0.50.. Pear cost 0.25 more so 0.50/0.25= 2pears.. Since total number of 0.55 is 9.. 2 goes to pear.. The rest 7 are apples. Idea is 0.55+0.25=0.80 so we just need to derive total no of 0.55 then we know the max possible number of fruits then using the difference in price to determine the total no of pears then the balance will be apples

consider 86 min as 1 and 1/2 hour - 4 min, 16 times (1 and 1/2 hours - 4 min) = 24 hours - 64 min = 22 hours 56 min

Answer with Order of Maths (ie. BODMAS) in mind and you can solve by identifying which steps to take. Since 135 + 5 (ie. 150 / 30 = 5) is equal to 142, therefore the empty box is the result from first (142 - 135 = 7), then (7 x 14 = 98). Hence, the answer is 98. I thought there is a bracket between (14+150), so cannot split 98/14 and 150/30. X/(14+150)/30=137-135=2. X=2*30*164=9840

Looking at the photo closely, I don't think there are brackets, May Yew. The question would be beyond primary students to work out if there are brackets.

With brackets it makes the question easier.

Is it correct

Zhong Shu Hao

S has 3u. In the end, S has twice as much as A. So how much does A has inthe end?

Micheal Lim

I still don't really understand?

Zhong Shu Hao

S has the same number of books throughout. Means S has 3u both before and after A has given away some books. Using this, find how many books A has left after giving away some books.

Zhong Shu Hao

A:S 2:3 4:6 Using this maybe easier?

Micheal Lim

Maybe can u drawn diagram to show me?

u try draw: A has 4 units while S has 6 units before. S has the same number of books in the end, while A has half of what S has.

Micheal Lim

A left 3u

so how much did A give away?
