I hope this is correct :- 35 friends x 24 slices = 840 840 divide by 70 = 12 slices each cake (answer) Work backwards 12 slices x 70 cakes = 840 slices 840 slices divided by 35 fiends = 24 slices each.

We can also consider that each friend received 2 cakes (70 divided by 35). Since two cakes made up 24 slices, each cake was cut into 12 slices,

Today we will discuss a question on Volume. This is a common question for Primary 6 students and it is important for them to understand the concept behind this question. The main idea here is that the same volume of water will have a different height if the base area changes. Using that concept, we are able to find the volume of water transferred and the amount of time taken to transfer the water. Hope it helps!

Oops. The above working was contributed by my boy. Have not tried the question myself. Sorry. He said he wanted to try when he saw the problem. Didn't know he'll post something.

Xavier Sng

Not to worry, Elaine. Your son is willing to stick his neck out and attempt the question. What more can we ask for?

Elaine Eo

Ha.. I shall discuss the problem with him tmr. Clearly illogical answer. Haha..

Just encourage him to try. :) That is how he can get further exposure and practice.

Good job to your son, Elaine. Always a happy occasion to see a child manage a concept. Another feather in his cap.

Just a variation to find the volume of R: add to 1905 ml these two volumes : 185 ml (the difference between P and R) and 475 ml (the difference between P and Q, 290ml + 185ml) to yield 2565 ml. Divide that by 3 and we get 855ml.
