Today I shall discuss a question that was posed to a Primary 1 question and I will demonstrate how to teach it to a Primary 1 child. I will make use of the CPA approach and show how to make use of everyday toys to lead a child into drawing models and eventually understanding how the model method works. Hope this video helps!

Thank you Mister Tan for another quality video. I would suggest three things that parents can do to enhance the learning experience for their children as they use tokens to explain this concept to 7-year-olds Just like in a magic performance, the magician invites a member of the audience to carefully examine the props. Let the child count out the ten tokens. It serves to enforce the presence of only ten tokens in the head of the child, and it encourages the child to practise counting to ten. Secondly, start off with Nora (who is the role played by the child) receiving two tokens first. This will cement the fact that Nora has two extra tokens right from the beginning. Thirdly, depending on the degree of participation of the child, the child can be asked to distribute the remaining eight tokens equally to Nora and Shanti. That helps to strengthen the concept of distributing a quantity equally between two parties. Mister Tan's suggestion for role-playing to impart concepts to children is an excellent one. Of course in the video, Mister Tan has no assistant to help him play the role of the child who is learning. Role playing makes learning interesting and hands on. Kudos, Mister Tan.

There are plenty of ways to teach it. The core concept follows the CPA approach. Yours is also following a similar concept. At the end of the day, we are all trying to get the child to understand the concept. And more importantly, move from concrete to abstract and eventually attain mastery. Cheers Xavier Sng

I'm thinking lowest common multiple for the denominator. Qn 3. LCM = 3 x 5 = 15 Ryan: 5/5 = 15/15 Sam: 4/5 x 15/15 = 12/15 Ken: 2/3 x 12/15 = 8/15 Converting to units, Ryan: 15u Sam: 12u Ken: 8u Total: 35u 210 / 35 = 6 12 x 6 = 72 stamps. Qn 4. Likewise, Ryan: 15u Ken: 10u Sam: 8u Total: 33u 132 / 33 = 4 8 x 4 = 32 stamps

2 bubbles for Nora and 1 for Shanti. Nora has the no 2 circled. Therefore through other two bubbles will be equal. So 2 + 4 + 4 = 10
