Perly Koh Soh..my alternative solution ...instead of model drawning->sometime students might be unable to cut the model after drawing to form an equation..
Just an alternative.. Yueh Mei model drawing is very clear to understand though.

Thanks Izam Marwasi.... but the school teaches them the model drawing method and we just have to follow. Thanks so much!

Not so much that you have to follow schools but more importantly, the child must understand. So whichever method makes sense to the child and allows him to apply to other problems, use it.

Hello Perly. While students are often instructed by their teachers to use the model method for the homework, the students cannot be penalised if non model methods are employed during examinations.
The model method is a powerful tool, and its objective is to help students transit through the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract phases.

Well said.... frankly I do find the model method powerful too! But the kids must understand and know how to use it, else will hinder them working towards the answers.

Perly Koh Soh..drawing model is fine...as long the child can cut the model properly..
There are various methods to solve a problem..esp those complicated ones...
Try to teach your kids other alternatives...but at the same time they understand the methods... You will need to leave the drawing model method once you encounter more complicated problem sums as the kids progressed...

It is important for us to recognise that while it is very easy for us to use PowerPoint and other tools to draw perfectly clean and proportioned models on devices, but the students in the examination hall do not have that privilege and time to present textbook-perfect models.

C'mon Izam, you are doing very well! From your effort and your willingness to attempt the questions I dare say you can more than hold your own. You have a good repertoire of tools, approaches and methods to bring it off. Your hard work and never-say-die attitude have paid off handsomely. Salute.
