SG chevron_right Primary 5 chevron_right Fractions

Pls kindly help this P5 math.The one in green pen is working from my girl's teacher.I don't get it,my girl's also can't recall.

Let area of square be 1. Area of shaded part is 5/6. Atea of reactangle = 8/3 (as area if sq is 3/8 of reactangle) Area of figure = sq + rect - shaded =1 + 8/3 - 5/6 = (6+16-5)/6 = 17/6 Area of shaded over total area = 5/6 รท 17/6 = 5/17 Area of unshaded over total = 1 - 5/17 = 12/17
