Can I check - what if the number of chocolates has also changed, eg someone gave him 2 more chocolates, how would you solve this? I know may not get a whole number answer in this case but I just want to know the general approach.

If nothing remains unchanged, it's purely simultaneous and it's not required for pri students. Can be done by "parts and units" but that's essentially simultaneous.
Bee Leng, difference remains the same. 1st one difference of 4u but 2nd one difference of 2u. Since they shd be the same we need to "equalize" them like balancing fractions. That's why X2 to 2nd equation.

Impt concept to learn by p5, age difference always remain the same/unchanged. So always make the diff the same, be it model or ratio method. :)

add age to the left of the model to maintain same difference. Students tends to add to the right, which causes a lot of confusion.
