Sharing Dr Kho's insights: Kho Tek Hong, in his FB comments said : We owe our high achievement in maths and science education to Mr Lee. Our Primary Maths and Science people benefited a lot in the early 1980s from the Japan-Singapore Technical Corporation signed between Mr Lee and the then Japan Prime Minister.

We greatly appreciated Mr Lee's foresight and his interest in education, not only the bilingual education, but also science and mathematics education.

They are correct. I just wanted to have a go :) language can be tricky for children (and adults). Trick is in knowing that if half are children then half are adults. If 3 of 8 units are equal to women and men are represented, the remaining unrepresented group must be 5 of 8 units children. If children are equal to 5 units and are also equal to half the total group, then men must be 2 units to balance number of women.

Allow me to continue from Yeo See Yeong's reply and show how the final arrangement can be deduced without any trial-and-error.
