Solution & proof that I managed to find - you start by using 1 domino to cover 2 squares, and you will notice that the 2 squares covered are always 1 black, 1 white. Therefore 32 dominoes cover 32 black & 32 white squares. But if you remove the corners, u notice that 2 white squares are removed, leaving 32 black & 30 white. Hence, no matter how u try, no way to place 31 dominoes on the chessboard. However, if u remove 1 black square & 1 white square on the board, regardless their locations, then yes, you can cover the board with 31 dominoes (Gomory's theorem) Thanks for helping me learn something new today. πŸ˜€
