a) 30240/3= 10080 litres was sold (1/3 was sold). Remaining amount = 20160 litres (30240-10080). Part b) 20160/4 = 5040 litres is in the 4 tanls (pressuming each tank is equal)

The (a) solution in the photo was working on 3-quarters of the petrol being sold instead of 1-third. That's why it wasn't correct.

3/1 * 4/2 * 5/3 * 6/4 * 7/5 ... ... 27/25 * 28/26 * 29/ 27 = 1/2 * 28 * 29 ( by cancelling out the common numerators and denominators) .. Equal 406?
