The radius of the larger semicircle is 10 cm (20/2), so length of semicircle is 10*pi. Since radius of the larger semicircle is 10, using the 15 cm side, we can work out that the radius of the smaller semicircles is 5 cm (15-10). Using a pencil to trace the border of the shape, we can see that the perimeter of the figure consists of the lengths of the larger semicircle and the two small semicircles (which becomes one circle. Therefore the perimeter is 10*pi + 2*5*pi.

Diameter of the Grey/bigger circle

instead of using the formula: 1/4 x 2 x pi x 14 (which is using the radius of the quadrant), it uses the formula 1/4 x pi x 28 (which is the diameter of the quadrant)

Answer sheet not wrong. Instead of equalised the lesser amount (i.e. 280-60), they equalised the larger amount then divide 2. You get the total tix sold for day 1... They plus then divide; whereas the method you shown usually taught in school is you subtract, divide THEN add the 60 back to it.

Oh yeah, didn't take a gd look at the answer sheet. So, the answer sheet isn't wrong afterall. It just didn't show the conventional way of doing this type of question - the way tt Grace Lee had worked out the problem sum :)

Both ways are acceptable

If I am not wrong, performance task is usually done in class.

this is to teach kids about Standard unit of measurement. Doesn't really have a standard answer.

This is supposed to be done in class, not as homework. He didn't wanna do it in class?

She said no one help her. So do we use the actual measurements of the footprint , paper clips n ice-cream stick?

Grace Lee Caleb Tey Maruko Chanmark thanks for replying. I thought my Math std in d past was OK. But quite embarrassed that Pl, I dun even know. .

It doesn't need to be accurate. An approximation will do. Like door must be more than 1 m.

Place the paper clips on the footprint to find out the footprint is how many paper clips long. if the footprint is 10 paperclips long then use the footprint print to measure the length of the table or the door . The length of the table is 3 footprints long then it will be 30 paper clips long. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, the child should use her foot to approximate the length of the classroom and friend's arm etc. The child can just walk the length of the classroom. Should be done in school.

Elaine Eo

If its difficult to use the foot in some instances, she can use the ice cream stick/ ruler (is the second object a ruler?) to measure the length of the item and convert it to the "foot" unit. Many ways to do it. The child can use her creativity to come up with the solution.

Foong Foong Ling Elaine Eo my kid wasn't even given paperclips or ice cream stick. Not much instructions given. She was just asked to do page .. to page .. r all schools like this?

Usually for such performance task to be done in class cos the tr has all the teaching resources.

I had done a similar activity in class using the footprint resource to measure.

Clarify with the math teacher if she still want your child to do it. And if she wants your child to do it, ask if it's using child's got cos you do not have the footprint cutout. Best to clarify.

You can take a paper clip and measure your kids foot. Then use ice cream stick to measure.
