Btw, my girl was taught using the way I did when she was in P6 (last year), in tuition centre and school. Making equations out of model drawings.

Xavier, can u try to solve the other one on beads and stamps? I tried drawing model but algebra seems inevitable. Sigh....

Math Masters both of you!

Haha. Thanks Michael but I don't have such a big head to fill the big hat. I am just learning from the shifus here.

Many thanks for your kind words, Michael. Mister Yeo and myself do not see ourselves as Math Masters, and we do not take ourselves too seriously. I would rather think that we, in our minutely small ways, are providing some support and help needed to nourish and inspire the youngsters so that one day, they can be the Math Masters.

Today, I will share how to solve this Heuristics question posted by a parent in a Facebook page. The question can be solved by drawing a very simple model. What's more important is the thinking process that a student takes, in order to arrive at the solution. Have a look and hope it helps! Please watch the video to the end. I have a very important announcement to make. Cheers!

P5. Please helpIn a shop, the ratio of the number of apples to oranges was 2 : 3. When 45 oranges were sold, the ratio of the number of apples to oranges became 5 : 2. Find the number of apples in the shop.

Hola! Can you please kindly check the numbers provided. They do not seem to tally.

15 - 4 = 11, not 9. That is why I thought the numbers did not tally.

oh. Get it now. miscounted on my end. Yar, book is wrong, haha

Maybe the shop is a fruit stall that sells sliced oranges.

11u =44 ! Then apples=40 oranges=60 then after 44 was removed leaves 40 apples and16 oranges. 45 does not work out....??

Xavier Sng

Goeie dag, Pieter Cronje. You are correct to say that if 44 oranges were sold instead of 45, we would have an answer.
