(a) Derrick's head start
= 20/60 hour × 10 km/h
= 10/3 km
John had a speed advantage of 2 km/h, so the time needed for John to make up 10/3 km
= 10/3 km ÷ 2 km/h
= 5/3 hours or 1 hour 40 min
That would be the time John needed to reach the midway between point A and point B.
Since Derrick would take 2 hours to reach the midway point, the distance required for Derrick to cycle the whole journey
= 2 x 2h × 10 km/h
= 40 km (ans)
(b) John needed 2 × 5/3 hours = 3 hours 20 min
Since John started at 1150, he would reach his destination at 1510. (ans)

Xavier thank you.
But the last part John start 20mins later than Derrick. So the starting time should be 1150 and ending time 1510.
Thank you

Thank you Jason. You are indeed correct and I have ammended accordingly.
The areas of triangle STU and triangle WTU are the same since they share the same base length and the same perpendicular height. Area of triangle WVU = 89 - 14 = 75 sq cm
