2:5 ---> 4:10 1;3 ---> 3:9 Hence, shaded area is 1 unit. Area of square = 6cm x 6cm = 36cm^2 Area of shaded part = 36cm^2 / 4 = 9cm^2

Hi, you may want to refer to this video. The concept is the same, only the presentation of the question is different, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SW4QawN-Uo

Raymond Ng, may i know why u x27?

Same idea as everyone else's soln... the key is to balance. x27 coz difference between 36 & 90 is 54, but 1 & 3 is only 2. So, need to "blow it up" 27 times to maintain the same difference

Today's question is typically a 5 mark question. Usually the last few in Paper 2. The concept is actually learned through easier questions attempted when the student is younger. This question in a sense, is an extension from what they have already learnt. The workings are tedious and requires a certain level of care from the students in order to be able to solve it. Hope it helps!
