Please help. ThksThere are 40 pupils in a class. 27 pupils join the Band. 29 pupils join Choir. 5 pupils did not join any CCA. How many pupils are in both Band and Choir?

40-5=35 (students with cca) 27+29=56 (total cca by 35 students) 56-35=21

40-5=35 (5 pupils did not join any CCA, therefore 35 did.) Out of 35 pupils, 8 did not join the Band (because 27 pupils joined the Band). Out of 35 pupils, 6 did not Choir (because 29 pupils joined Choir). 35-8-6=21. Therefore, 21 pupils are in both CCAs. This answer is obtained by exclusion of pupils with no CCA and those with only one CCA.

SG chevron_right Primary 6 chevron_right Fractions

Just to share:Hi all, this is how you can solve the question without introducing another variable. Kristen had a sum of money. She gave 2/7 of her money and another $87 to her parents. Then she gave 4/9 of the remaining money to her brother. She had 1/3 of her original amount of money left. How much did she have at first?
