For part a, you got it right. Number of shaded squares = figure no. + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9 Total squares = number of shaded squares x number of shaded squares = 9 x 9 = 81 Number of unshaded squares = total squares - shaded squares = (9 x 9) - 9 = 81 - 9 = 72
