" If Becky give John 11 beads, they would have the same number of beads" ---> Becky has 22 more beads than John.
"If John give Becky 14 beads, Becky would have 3 times as many beads as John"
2 units = 22 + 14 + 14
= 50
1 unit = 50
John has : 50 + 14
= 64 beads

And once the model of Becky having 22 more than John is drawn, you can transfer the 14 from John to Becky. :)

For part c, it's figure 24
Number of shaded squares = 25 (ie. 24 + 1)
Number of squares = 25 x 25 = 625
Number of unshaded squares = 625 - 25 = 600

How about part a ?

I still don't understand

For part a, you got it right.
Number of shaded squares
= figure no. + 1
= 8 + 1
= 9
Total squares
= number of shaded squares x number of shaded squares
= 9 x 9
= 81
Number of unshaded squares
= total squares - shaded squares
= (9 x 9) - 9
= 81 - 9
= 72

Thought of using algebra but p5 have yet to learn them.

I don't think I used algebra... would it help if I had drawn a heart shape to represent n? 😄
What I had done was basically identify the number pattern & generate the nth term.

No worries...slow and steady. Practice makes perfect. Practise the top school papers will help.
Sometimes it is not that you do not know the basics, it is how to apply.

Apologies for the confusion.
1. 3000 - 450 = 2550
2. 2550 / 2 = 1275
