Hi, Kellyn. If you observe carefully, all the even numbers have a subtraction sign
AND
all the odd numbers have an addition sign.
HINT 1
For the odd numbers, pair up the numbers as seen below.
1 and 99
2 and 98
3 and 97
and so on.
HINT 2
Do the same for the even numbers.
2 and 98
3 and 97
4 and 96
and so on.
HINT 3
What do you notice about the value of each pair? :) :)
Hint 4:
How many pairs are there for the even numbers?
How many pairs are there for the odd numbers?
Bonus Hint: There is one number that cannot be paired. Find that number.
If you need more hints, let me know. :)

Add a 0 in front.
0+1 = 1
-2 + 3 = 1
...
Total 50 pairs.
So, 50 × 1 = 50

60% girls without spectacles
40% boys without spectacles
40% boys without spectacles = 24% of total pupils in school
Divide 2 on both sides
20% pupils (regardless boys or girls) without spectacles = 12% of total pupils in school
Times 3 on both sides
60% girls without spectacles = 36% of total pupils in school
pupils without spectacles = boys without spectacles + girls without spectacles = 24% + 36% = 60%
pupils with spectacles = 100% - 60% = 40%
40% = 580
Divde 4 on both sides
10% = 145
Total number of pupils = 100% = 145 * 10 = 1450

I find the sentence '3/4 of those who wear spectacles are boys' redundant. You can do without this statement because the statement 'the number of boys who do not wear spectacles forms 24% of the total pupils in the school' helps the learner to solve for the problem immediately.
