For every hamper damage.. The lost amount is $3.10+$3.40=$6.50 Assume all 70 hampers delivered without any damages. 70x$3.10= $217 He received $178..therefore $217-$178= $39 is for the damaged hampers. $39/$6.50= 6 hampers damaged.(ans)

Checked.. 64x$3.10= $198.40 6damaged-> $ 20.40(6x$3.40) $198.40-$20.40=$178

Is XVZY a square? If so, then XV is also 30m. Then length of Furniture dept is 290-30=260. Area = 260 x 30.

It wasn't mentioned in the question that XVYZ is a square. If make assumption then the answer will be 7800m2.

Not mention le. So can assume ?

I have the same assumptions as the other 2... If PS, SV and VZ are equal then VXYZ assume to be square since Q didn't mention that diagram not drawn to scale. Then we find the length of UV (290-30) = 260 Area = 260 * 30 = 7800

If we can assume the toys shop is a square, then this qn is easily solved. But usually if it's not mentioned at all, we can't assume, can we !?

Does school teach to write assumption statement? I taking from view that the other part is to trick student.... :p

Hi Celine, I'm not too sure..

If the Toys section is a square, then, I don't see why we need the books section in the first place. The books section seem redundant in terms of information value. The characters of Alex and Brenda are not clear. Are they supposed to walk a certain distance around the mall? Are they suppose to cover a certain area? Or were they placed in the question for question's sake? I am confused.
