Actually i think this question is not solveable. There's no reason why E must be above the midpoint of BC.

Actually it must be clearly stated that E is halfway between B and C.

Hi. Another way to see it. The 3 pink shaded triangles have the same base and height that are equal to half the side of the big square, which can be cut into 8 such triangles. So the unshaded parts are equal to 5 such triangles. Hence, Shaded : Unshaded = 3:5
