You can try the following method. Let Elyssa's money be 4 units. Lizbeth ---> 7 units June ---> 4 units - $6 Total units ---> 7 units + 4 units + 4 units - $6 = 15 units - $6 If each of them have the same amount in the end, they will each have (15 units - $6) / 3 = 5 units - $2 Before: Elyssa has 4 units After she receives $16 from Lizbeth, Elyssa has 5 units - $2. So, 5 units - $2 - 4 units = $16 1 unit = $18 Elyssa's amount of money at first = 4 units = 4 x $18 = $72 (b) Total sum of money = 15 units - $6 = 15 x $18 - $6 = $264
