Before: L : A = 2 : 3 (Diff 1u) After L : A = 3 : 7 (Diff 4u) Hope this helps. :)

Thank you BA Poh Ann! I hinted..and we both still didn't get it. Would it be related to the solution below provided by Vincent? Thanks Vincent Ong! Wow finally got it. But it is the first time coming across this kind of question for her for p5. I can understand but find it hard to explain. If you can enlighten me...how did you get the 4 u? I mean, how to explain to the child?

BA Poh Ann

Multiply 4 for the Before's units: L : A = 8 : 12 After L : A = 3 : 7 Each of them has reduced 5 units after spending $250 each, therefore 5 units = $250.

Hi Lai Kay Ho, I believe BA Poh Ann has answered your question. :)

There is another acceptable answer besides 6 Sum of boxes:- 1) 4+5+11+9 = 29 2) 6+3+10+8 = 27 3) 2+7+8+? = 25 4) 3+5+6+9 = 23 Stands to reason that 8 is also acceptable

When all the 2 nos. on top r added up, the answers r always equal to the product of the 2 nos. below. Try it out yourself.

Zhong Shu Hao

Sh Lim Its the other way round 😳

Sh Lim

Oh yah, sorry sorry abt it.

Rae Ng

Usually for boxes, each box should follow the same rule. In this case, 4 x 5 - 11 = 9. Hence, 2 x 7 - 8 = 6.

Another P5 question

Replies 3

Zhong Shu Hao

If D give C 22 stamps and they end up with the same no of stamps, D will have 2x22=44 stamps more than C. When C gives D 110 stamps, C loses 110 stamps while D gains 110stamps. This further increases the diff between D and C by 2x110=220. The total diff will thus be 44+220=264 stamps. This 264 stamps will be the 3 extra units that D has. 3units=264 1unit=88

Zhong Shu Hao

So C has: 1 unit+110=198 stamps D has: 4units-110=242 stamps

Thanks!

Primary 4 challenging Maths qn for all....please help! Thks.Jian Wei had 4 times as many stamps as Ali. After Ali gave 642 stamps to his sister, Jian Wei then had 12 times as many stamps as Ali. How many stamps did Jian Wei have?

Replies 3

Zhong Shu Hao

Let the final amount of stamps Ali has be 1 unit. So Jian Wei will have 12 units of stamps. Initially, Jian wei has 4 times as many stamps as Ali. This implies that Ali has 3 units of stamp initially. Hence, 2 units =642 1 unit = 321. Jian Wei have 12x321=3852 stamps
