For Q4, the base of the triangle is not 18. Study the shaded triangle again and look for the correct length of the base.

For Q5, the areas of A and B are correct. But in the next step, would subtracting are of B from A result in the area of the polka-dotted triangle? Ask yourself -- how can you use the ratio given together with the areas of A and B to get the answer?

Is my method correct?

First part 36 is correct. After that, 36x4? Re look at the figure and see if you understand what the question wants you to find and what shapes to add/subtract to find the required area.

Basically, the method is to add up the 2 triangles 1st but by doing that, we've inadvertently double counted the overlapped region twice, so we need to subtract it once. A neat way to obtain the sum of the 2 triangles is to shift P downwards so that SPQ form a nice triangle. Note that the area remains unchanged by the shift. Hope this clarifies.
