Insert the brackets to do 3 + 6 first. 12 + 36 / (3 + 6) x 2 = 12 + 4 x 2 = 12 + 8 = 20

The q ask for a pair of brackets, does that mean 2 sets of bracket

I think brackets come in pair in general. So, I assume that they are referring to a pair (open and close bracket).
