This question doesn't make sense. 3/4 red...so only left 1/4 to be other colors. How can purple be 3/4?

Siti Noraini Hassan

I agree..i guess theres an error to the question

Jojo Celestino

Maybe we can assume that 3/4 of the remainder is purple.. In that case 1/16 would be gold..

Jeremy Neo

Should be a typo to the 2nd part where 3/4of the remainder should be purple.

Leon Ong

Actually u just need to use 3/4 x2 and it will be 6/8 so the question is correct

Leon Ong

The rest will be 2/8 which is 1/4

Leon Ong

U just need to draw out the model and all make sense already.

Jojo Celestino

Sorry Mr Leon but 3/4 x 2 is 6/4 or 3/2..

Leon Ong

No no 3/4 x 2/2

Leon Ong

Is 6/8

They have 3 set of color

Jojo Celestino

However when 6/8 is simplified, it again becomes 3/4 which does not make sense.. A number after being multiplied to two cannot be the original number.. Also 2/2 is equivalent to 1 so by doing 3/4 x 2/2 you are actually multiplying by 1..

This make sense?

Jojo Celestino

Nope.. Because the model shows 2 sets of beads.. One is composed of red and gold while the other set is composed of purple and gold.. The problem is talking about a single set of beads composed of red, purple and gold..

Leon Ong

Is a bit logic in this question as all is beads and they break into two portion and then share with you that both add up into 3/4. So once you draw out the model all is clear

This is the best I can explain, sorry if doesn't make sense to you bro.

Leon Ong

So do you have the answer?

Leon Ong

Maybe my 1/4 not the answer too?

Jojo Celestino

I honestly dont know what the answer is.. Like the others who posted here earlier, I think some part of this question might be wrong.. However, I may be the one who does not understand it also..

Anyway the qn is he bought some beads and is from the same batch 3/4 is red, 3/4 is purple and as so you able to draw the model and 2/8 or 1/4 should be the answer. Correct me if I am wrong and please anyone can help too? I hope I can get the rite answer too

Jeremy Neo

By splitting the model into 2 parts is a misconception itself as it will mean 3/8 instead of 3/4 if u see the model as 1 whole.

Sorry Leon, Jo is correct in his assessment.

Let's see if there is someone can give a better explanation to this qn. Cheers everyone. And whoever have the actual answer to this qn please share. For me this qn have no mistake as I think is logical. Granite

Thank you so much for your kind help. Is there any way to prove PQT and STR is half of the rectangle?

Raymond Ng

Equal base, sum of heights = height of rectangle. Therefore, area = 1/2 the rectangle
