8kg of carrots ---> lack $4.25
5kg of carrots ---> left with $2.50
3kg of carrots ---> $4.25 + $2.50
--------------------> $6.75
1kg of carrots ---> $6.75 ÷ 3
--------------------> $2.25
Amount of money Mrs Raj has =5×$2.25 + $2.50
= $13.75
Amount needed = 10 × $2.25
= $22.50
Additional amount needed = $22.50 - $13.75
= $8.75

Rye, can this qn be solved using multiples of 8 and 5?

Rye Tan
Yes it can, but it will be confusing as you will be dealing with decimals, and you will need something less than a multiple of 8, yet something larger than a multiple of 5.

1/5 of girls = 1/4 of boys
Original no of girls to boys is thus 5 : 4
With 25 fewer girls and 25 fewer boys, the original difference in the numbers between the girl and the boys remain unchanged at the end.
The final ratio between girls and boys is 5 : 3

Hi Xavier Sng .. the initial ratio is 4:5 and not 5:4. Also, 1/5 of girls = 2 times 1/4 of boys.

Good afternoon to you. Let us assume that there are indeed 90 people at first where 50 are girls and the other 40 are boys.
2/5 of 50 girls is 20 girls.
1/4 of 40 boys is 10 boys.
Hence, 20 girls are indeed twice the number of 10 boys.
After 25 girls leave, 25 girls remain. After 25 boys leave, 15 boys remain.
2/5 of 25 girls is 10 girls.
Indeed there are 25 - 15 = 10 boys fewer than girls at the end.
I hope that helps. Regards
