Angle s is 47 + 31 =78 degree if one draws another line parallel to the other 2 lines. Reason is alternate angles applied 2 times and then add up.

I usually use Andrews Method too

From the Model, there are 10 squares in the Beginning. Individual is 60% so in the beginning 6 squares are Individual and 4 squares are Team events. After half time, some individual events completed but ZERO Team events completed. Thus 4 Team squares is now 80 % and from individual events 1 out of 6 squares is left as 1 square represents 20 % individual event after half time. Thus 5 shaded squares represents completed individual events. Since there are 42 more Team events than Individual events thus 4 Team squares - 1 individual square is 3 squares (difference). 3 squares or 3u = 42 u = 14 5 squares or 5U = 5*14 = 70 (individual events completed) Total = 10 squares or 10U = 10 * 14 = 140

A splendid effort from Mister Yeo! I really like this problem sum. It provides a good platform to test our application in mathematics. It also tells an interesting story with characters that we Singaporeans know all too well. A question that is uniquely Singapore! On the eve of a looming election, I am inspired to design a series of problem sums based on it so that my students can get a go at them. Elements that include but not limited to 3CFs, shifting votes, amendment to electoral boundaries and whether a losing candidate gets to keep his or her deposit make interesting subjects to spice up the problem sums. Before anyone starts jumping on me and claim that I am making a political statement, hold your horses. Mathematics is apolitical. I am just saying that boring sums need not tell boring stories. Just saying.....

Hi Xavier, can explain why 3/4 * 3.64?

Yeo See Yeong

Xavier, thanks for taking on the question. but u missed out a "u" in ...3.64s + 21 +.... 0.5 points deducted. :)

Hui Sim, as Schooling's 1st half was 28u + 3.64, his 2nd half will need to *3/4 since the split was 4:3.

4000-400 Keyword should be value of 4

4000-400. Keyword is VALUE. If you refer to the 1st Chapter of P3 Math textbook, there is a section on " Place Values". :)

Ya that was what I thought . But it is mcq 1 ) 378 2) 1600 3) 2378 4) 3622 So I was wondering is it my understanding of the qns is wrong or a mistake in the qns.

Caryn Mok

Seems like a mistake in the mcq options!
