Must say I found it a bit tricky too because the base percentage has changed. Here is another way of seeing it, just for sharing.

I got 18 for the answer...
Let see if any members here can solve this..
Increase of 20% from 60%->72%
So after the change
Red->Blue - 72%-28%
Change is 12%
100% is 150 beads
So 12%=18

Caleb Tey
by losing some beads, red beads increased by 20%.
120% x 60% = 72%
He has 72% of the bead as red
72% vs 28%
108 vs 42
108 red used to be 60%
=108 / 60 * 40 = 72
There were 72 blue beads at the start.
There are 42 at the end.
He lost 30.

Serene Khoo..I agree with your working ...the key word is increased by 20% -,60% to 80%
and not increased of 20% as I initially thought..

Thanks for the enlightenment.
I have make an unforgivable mistake of putting 80% for the increase of 20%.
It should be 72% with the increase of 20% in 60.
Thank you all again

This is a MCQ QN..1 or 2 marks
Not worth the working as above I think..
If u calculate this way--> still get the correct answer..the calculation might be wrong..but I think this should be enough for a MCQ....
No need to show working for MCQ right?..just shade the answer as (2)...LOL

Izam Marwasi are you sure your working will work everytime for similar questions...?
6 years ago
Izam Marwasi
Rye Tan...I already state the working might be wrong...it may not work for other qns..my point is if the student calculate my way and this is a MCQ QN..no working is required the answer is correct.
This is a MCQ QN...the setter of this question should not set this as a MCQ...and this will sent the wrong signal to the students.. Thinking they are right...it is a poorly set QN for a MCQ?..
That was my point...sorry if my analogy disturbs your point as an educator..

Xavier Sng,for q 2 how did you get 10 and 6?
6 years ago
Xavier Sng
Hello Foong Ling. The total number of units of pens Eunice had was 25, of which 15 units were blue and 10 were green. The total number of units of pens Iris had was 21 units, of which 15 units were green and hence 6 units were blue.
