Let Beth be x Keith = x+ 120 Keith gives 1/6 to Beth=1/6x+20 So, Beth=7/6x + 20 Keith=5/6x+100 (7/6x+20)-20=(5/6x+100) 7/6x=5/6x+100 7/6x-5/6x=100 2/6x=100 X=300 Keith=300+120=420 Ratio of Keith to Beth is 420:300 Simplest form 7:5

Ans for Part B This is from Kai Meng: Only the water above the 20cm mark will be affected. {(28-20)×756.25} ÷ (756.25+ 5×5) = increase in height of (Affected volume above 20cm in A) ÷ (Combined base area of A and the square base of the upper cuboid in B)

Area of triangle is 1/2 times base times height which is equal to half of the area of one rectangle. So it's 1/8 which is 12.5%

@xu, can u show how u get 1/8?

6 years ago
Xu Cuiping

Half the rectangle. There are four rectangles in total. So half a rectangle out of four rectangles that's how I get 1/8

6 years ago
Xu Cuiping

Since each rectangle is made up of 2 halves, there will be eight halves in total

Don't get it from pic?

Half of the square is(1part) shaded hence if we break all the square into 2 parts, we will have 8 parts. 1/8 x 100 = 12.5%
