6 units = 24 1 unit = 4 For the ratio to be 5:1, Tom needs to have 5x4= 20 sweets. Therefore, Jane needs to give Tom 20-15 = 5 #

First, total up the sweets, 15+9=24 Then, total up ratio, 5+1=6 As 6 portion = 24 sweets So 1 portion = 4 sweets Ratio 5:1 means 20 sweets: 4 sweets As Jerry has 9 sweets, he need to give Tom 5 sweets

Cookies now = 6 + 14 + 5 = 25 Cookies bought = 5 % cookies bought / cookies now = 5 / 25 x 100% = 20%

Is it 5/(5+6+14)*100 ==> 5/25 = 1/5 = 20%

Guess u missed the key sentence 'she has NOW' Number of cookies she has now is 6 + 14 + 5 = 25 As she bought 5, so use 5 divide 25 5/25 X 100 = 20%

This question is ...weird! There is no way Alan can have 200g of flour left! 7/10 + (7/10-2/5) = 10/10 = 1 whole set of flour gone! what has been left behind?

6 years ago
Izam Marwasi

He used 0.7kg+0.3kg= 1kg Left 200g Total Flour at First is 1200g Fraction used-.> 1000/1200= 5/6

I still don't get this though. This question doesn't sound logical. If you add up the fractions, you get nothing left. (b) seems to come out of the blue!

7/10 kg is not the same as 7/10 of the flour...

Thanks a lot. Is there another simplify method ?

6 years ago
Desmond Tan

Draw a 3 units model for Mrs Lim and a 1 unit model for Jerome. The difference is 2u and that is equal to the difference in their ages (45-7=38) Hence each unit will be 38/2=19 This is the age of Jerome when Mrs Lim is three times his age. Therefore the time will be (19-7=12) yrs.

I am using units and parts. Let the age be u and the future age be p.

Got it. Thanks to all 😊

Another simple method is, Numbers bigger than 45 years old that can be divided by 3 is 48, 51, 54, 57, 60... so u get 16, 17, 18, 19, 20... U write down 48-16, 51-17, 54-18, 57-19, 60-20 Since their age different is 45-7 = always 38, the only possible age is 57-19 To reach 19 years old will take 12 years time
