Let c be no of containers. No of beads = 45c + 33 = 53c - 39 33 + 39 = 53c - 45c 72 = 8c C = 72/8 = 9

No I dun, but cos my son's teacher rejected one algebra working saying they are not taught yet.

Add: 33 and 39 = 72 53 - 45 = 8 72/8 = 9 This is the formula for such qn: (39 + 33 ) /(53 - 45) = 72/8 = 9

We came across this question too. Algebra method will just frustrate everyone. The above formula works for all such qn and I made my son memorise it... (though can't make much sense of it ) :p

I respectfully disagree. If a student is ready for algebra, he should be taught algebra.

Can also use the assumption method : Let assume all are $5-notes, 22 x $5 = $110 $110 - $86 = $24 Difference between a $5-note and a $2-note = $3 Thus, $24 ÷ $3 = 8 Since there are 8 pcs of $2-notes, 22 - 8 = 14 pcs of $5-notes

Alternative assumption working. Can also use the assumption method : Let assume all are $2-notes, 22 x $2 = $44 $86 - $44 = $42 Difference between a $5-note and a $2-note = $3 Thus, $42 ÷ $3 = 14 Since there are 14 pcs of $5-notes, 22 - 14 = 8 pcs of $2-notes
