Total no. of toys the boys had - total no. of toys the girls had --> 74 bx5 - 3(50-b) = 74 5b - 150 + 3b = 74 8b = 74 + 150 = 224 b = 224/8 = 28 boys 50-28=22 girls

I agree with Andy Lim. But another thought came in and i was thinking why different answer? 5-3=2. Each boy has 2 more than each girl. 74/2=37 boys 50-37=13 girls.

74 is not the total of toys both boys and girls received but it is the difference of toys between boys and girls received. This question is different from .. There are 24 cows and chickens in the farm, their total legs is 84 legs, how many cows and how many chickens are there?

Try this 24x8= 192 192-66= 126 126/14= 9 beetles 24-9= 15 spiders

Orchids A:B 3:4 (multiply this ratio by 3*) 9:12 NOTE: the key point is to get A the same overall number as B cos the question says "A has as many plants as B" Roses A:B 7:4 A --> 9+7= 16 B --> 12+4=16 (Both the same now, this is an illustration but not a required working steps) Extract whatever u need from the above working. Question asking A (orchids) : B (roses), therefore, the new ratio is 9:4. BUT, next time DO NOT be lazy! Do your own working before asking for help. Otherwise, I believe, you'll be blacklisted hence no one will answer to your posting.

You may draw bar models: begin by asking which quantity you can represent -- the 'before' bars, as equal amounts of money. Next, show the 'after' bars with respective units and amounts spent. When the models are drawn, look for a number units that represent an amount of money. If you are still stuck, show your model drawing and we can give you further help and feedback.
