Jane bought some pots and bowls. She paid $116 for them. The pots cost $12 each and a bowl was $5 cheaper. Jane bought 3 more bowls than pots.a) How many pots did she buy?b) How many bowls did she buy? Anyone here can help solve?

I am very new to this new age math and I have no idea how to do model. Is my method considered algebra? Can student do any methods to get the answer?

Hazel Grace, I never said my way is the only way. I only said listing is a bad way. Just because I say some ways are bad does not mean I don't respect others. It just mean I think that some ways are bad. What does listing teach? Does it scaffold to other methods? What if the number is big? Children at P6 can get easily confused. So teach better methods so that they don't have to learn more methods. Must teach less to do more.

Yeo See Yeong, unless specified in the questions, any mathematically correct method that students use should be acceptable. In your solution, you have represented the problem situation by drawing a diagram to help formulate an algebraic equation to solve the problem.
