How to get 10u ?

Maggie Lukes

I've just started researching this method, so I hope others will correct me if it's wrong.

Can I know how to get 10u?

Chong Ji Lian

Spend 900 first. Then 30% of the remainder of the savings she spent again. So I cut the remainder into 10 sections. Then shaded 3units. So she spent 3units and 900 and the leftover of 7u is half of her savings as mentioned.

So u are using 100/10 to become 10u?

Chong Ji Lian

Yup because 30% is 3 out of 10

Try to find the 1 shaded area from here.

Since all are isosceles triangles, the height and base are of the same length.

From the mid-point of line AC, draw a straight line towards point B. The line you have drawn is equals to half the length of line AC.

Zhong Shu Hao..does that apply to all triangles or only for right-angled triangle.. (Referring to ur first comment)

Zhong Shu Hao

only for right-angled AND isosceles triangle

Have they learnt phythagoras theorem yet? AB = BC = x xsq + xsq = 400 Xsq = 200 Area of triangle = 1/2 xsq = 100

(20x20) divide by 4. Reason: put 4 of the same triangle together as a square of side 20cm. Find the area. Then divide it into 4.

Zhong Shu Hao

Alt method is to draw in 3 more identical triangles, such that a square of side 20cm is formed.

Choon Hock kids were thought 1/2 x 20 x 20=200 which is the area of sqaure than u divide by 2=100

Yew Keong

This apply only isos right angle triangle

Tell yr child to construct like this. Then he/she can see that the triangle is actually 1/4 of the square. This is what Shu Hao is trying to tell u.
