Need some help on this....

one pencil costs $5-$2=$3.

Zhong Shu Hao

for every pencil sold, 3 pens are sold. We can let 1 pencil and 3 pens be one unit. so the amount of money collected from 1 unit is $3+$5x3=$18. Since a total of $630 is collected, the number of units sold is $630/$18 =35. Hence, 35 pencils are sold and 105 pens are sold

It is asking for the difference in all sales of pens and pencils ....

Zhong Shu Hao

amount collected from sale of pens=105 x $5=$525 amount collected from sale of pencils=35x$3=$105 Difference=$525-$105=$420.

A slightly different model. When drawing models, I like to ensure the parts (top and bottom) are equal so there is a basis of comparison. A common mistake that many kids make is that they forget to take away 3/4 of the 160 as well. I have shaded the parts that are taken away.

Lets assume no. of d = x Then no. of c = x+160 Now form the equation (x+160) - 3/4 (x+160) + x = 235 Solve this equation x + 160 - 3/4x - 120 + x = 235 5x/4 + 40 = 235 5x/4 = 195 5x = 780 x = 156 So x is no. of duck Hence no. Of duck is 156

in 12 minutes, Sharon (S) has travelled 14km. So distance between Xin Yi(X) and S is 31km - 14km = 17km. Since S and X are travelling in opposite directions, the distance between them will decrease at a rate of 70km/h +100km/h = 170km/h. So time taken for S and X to meet is 17km / (170km/h) = 1/10h = 10min. So the time they meet is at 10:22am.

Should meet at 10.18am.

oh yah. sry 1/10h is 6min not 10min... XD

For speed questions, I like to see if I can use the speed ratios as they can be quite flexible. In this question, after the first 12 min they travel for the same length of time, so I can leverage the ratios .....
